sea tangle kelp noodles

These noodles are delicious. They're made of kelp seaweed and are 100% raw. When you take them right out of the package they're crunchy but if you soak them in water or a sauce for a few hours they soften up nicely and taste remarkably like regular, cooked pasta. I'm going to have some later with pesto. They're available at seatangle.com and are something like 30 bucks for a case of 12.

Oh yeah, today's my birthday. Happy birthday to me!

emotional eating

I never had an eating disorder or anything of that nature but I think like many folks I have learned over the years that food can make you feel better if you're feeling sad.

I had a little encounter with my ex-husband earlier today which left me grumpy and when I got home my thoughts immediately turned to the fried shrimp special at the seafood joint down on Broadway. Well that was out of the question so I made myself some guacamole instead. I felt better after eating it. I think legitimate hunger had something to do with my mood as I hadn't eaten since very early in the morning. So all's well that ends well.

snowy saturday

Today is my sixteenth day on raw food. It's been an on-again, off-again journey for me since January of 2004. I think blogging will help me stay "on," which is my goal once and for all.

Part of what I hope to achieve is an all-around healthy way of living which will help me do the things I want to do in life. I've not been feeling well for awhile now. More on that in a future post.

Breakfast today was a smoothie made from:

two cups of orange juice
maybe 1/2 cup of pineapple
4-5 bananas
a dollop or coconut butter
kale

Now I'm out for a walk to get some fresh air and move this mostly sedentary body of mine. It's the aftermath of yet another snowstorm here in upstate NY, and the midday sun is high in the sky, glistening on the snow and making everything beautiful.
